N Scale Model Trains

N Scale model trains are an attractive scale for model railroading enthusiasts. N Scale trains are smaller than the popular HO scale and allow model railroaders to build a more elaborate track in a smaller space. This is preferred if you would rather focus on the track and not so much on the train. Some use the term N Gauge when referring to N Scale but they are considered the same.

N scale model trains are one of the smallest train scales. It was first released during the 60s as a result of the slump of sales of model trains. Manufacturers were looking for ways to sell cheaper model trains without sacrificing the quality. The result is the N scale model train. Depending on the country where it was manufactured, the N scale model trains ranges from 1:148 to 1:160. The US model scale comes with 1:160 sizes. Any country that manufactures model trains would have N scale model trains. This scale model train is only outshined in popular by the larger, HO scale model trains. N scale is also the second smallest scale with the Z scale coming in with the size of 1:220. But because of it’s too small; Z scale is not as popular with its bigger counterpart.

Even though N scale model trains come in different sizes, the track of the N Scale model train has been standardized. Every N scale model train could run in a 9mm track. The maximum voltage for the N scale model trains have been standardized to 12 volts only. Along with the standardization, controls especially the DCC (Digital Command Control), has also helped in controlling speed which will resemble actual movements of the train.
