Atlas or Atlas Model Railroad Company Inc. was founded by Stephan Schaffan Sr. but the success of Atlas as a model train maker was credited to his son, Stephan Schaffan Jr. It was said that Stephan Jr. was able to develop an improved railroad track from small parts given to him by his father. It was an impressive switch kit which became a hit in their area. Their shop was established in 1924 and it was Stephan Jr. came to improve it on 1933. The father and son tandem continued until they decided to mass produce different model train. Today, Atlas still develops different scales of model trains in varying scales.
